My work is often cynical and sarcastic, sometimes sensual, frequently confrontational, and always original and insightful

Fred van der Wal, was born in 1942 in Renkum, the Netherlands. He is a realistic artist, who has been widely exhibited, throughout the Netherlands and abroad. Since 1965, more than three hundred fifty one man and group exhibitions of his work have been held in the Netherlands while special exhibitions were also mounted in Londen, Antwerpen, Parijs, New York.
Fred’s work has received critical acclaim. His work is included in numerous private and public collections including the Rijksmusuem, Amsterdam, Stedelijk Musuem, Amsterdam, Fries Musuem, Leeuwarden, the ICN collection of the Netherlands. After 2009, he published over 45 books published providing stories and overviews of his weblogs from 2006 untill 2016. Recurring themes in his work include identity, gender roles,sadomasochism, bi- and homosexuality, religion and the positive and negative aspects of human experience. His work is often cynical and sacastic, sometimes sensual, frequently confrontational, and always original and insightful.
His portraits, especially those of gender roles and transevstism, have met with some controversy among members of the Bible Belt.
